Exploring the Other Side of the Camera Lens

I’m changing things up a little in this post, as I got to do something really fun last week and I wanted to share it with you guys! I got to work with a wonderfully talented photographer, Nikki from Mint Photography,Β on a photo shoot at Eglinton Park.

Let’s get one thing straight, I do not enjoy being photographed. I don’t hate it, but it’s not my favourite thing. I really enjoy taking photos, just not a huge fan of being in them. Especially when we’re talking about a photo shoot, where it’s just me in front of the camera. Yikes! But right away, Nikki made me feel very comfortable.

Nikki had scouted out some cool locations to shoot at in the park. Nothing felt super forced or awkward. Honestly, I was shocked at how quick and painless the whole experience was.

Normally, when I get photos back from somewhere, a shoot, and event, even school pictures back in the day, I like a maybe one or two of them. But I gotta say, this time I think I’m actually happy with all of the photos!

Like I said, these photo shoots aren’t usually fun for me. In fact, they can be a bit awkward and stressful. But I was so relieved this one was different! Not only did I actually have a good time, but I loved the results.

If you’re looking for a photographer, check out Nikki’s Mint Photography website, and see what you think.

You want to know the craziest thing? I actually want to do another shoot with Nikki soon! I know, nuts. But that’s how much I enjoyed it. Only next time, I’m gonna bring a special guest (hint, he has 4 paws :P)

Let me know your thoughts on photo shoots below. Are you comfortable in front of the camera? What’s your favourite shoot you’ve ever done?

If you enjoyed this, please share it πŸ™‚ Pin on PinterestShare on StumbleUponShare on FacebookTweet about this on TwitterEmail this to someoneShare on Google+Share on LinkedInShare on Reddit

I’m also the type of person to be really shy and awkward in front of a camera… even though I would love to do a photoshoot of myself one day. I think I will look into Nikki’s Mint Photography for my next picture outing. Thanks for sharing, and love your pictures!

I do recommend doing it (and of course I obviously recommend Nikki as well). At the very least it’s so nice to have some pictures of yourself, since being on the other side you’re often left out of the photo!

These photos are absolutely gorgeous and I would never know that you’re someone who is shy in front of the camera from these! I am also a person who hates having their photo taken! But these are beautiful!

Thanks! Yes, that was the goal ultimately, although I was not sure if I’d be able to achieve it, so thanks for the feedback πŸ™‚

I used to hate getting my photo taken but now I’m really starting to enjoy it! The problem is getting my husband to enjoy it also and take photos of me while traveling:):)

Haha right? I hear you. I don’t think taking a picture ever crosses my fiance’s mind. That’s why I am always taking them and never in them hahaha.

These photos are amazing. I love how natural you look. That’s the key to a good photographer. Making you feel comfortable enough to be yourself!! Be warned though- it’s a little addicting. It’s how I started a fashion blog (my husband is a photographer).

Your photos look cool and natural. Almost like you didn’t know you were being shot, which to me is better.
The older i get and the less i like being in front of the camera and more behind it. So i totally understand where you are coming from. I have done a few shoots a decade ago, one for a local newspaper and another for a fashion designer’s catalogue. Though both were pleasant experiences, it doesn’t change the fact that I prefer being behind the lens these recent years. I also have an issue with selfies and have to make lots of efforts when taking any!!

Ahhh yes, selfies…YIKES! I am not good at them and just don’t like them of myself lol. I admire that some people are so god at taking them and look so comfortable!

Don’t you love that?! When I started my blog and using photographs of myself I hated taking pictures. Now, I love it! You’ll learn to, too! πŸ™‚
